Amish Hamburger Steak Bake is a comforting, home-style dish featuring juicy hamburger patties smothered in a rich onion and mushroom gravy, then baked to perfection. This hearty, old-fashioned recipe is perfect for a cozy family dinner.

Ingredients

– 1 1/2 lbs ground beef

– 1/2 cup breadcrumbs

– 1 egg, beaten

– 1/4 cup milk

– 1 teaspoon salt

– 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

– 1 teaspoon garlic powder

– 1 teaspoon onion powder

– 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

– 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

– 1 large onion, sliced

– 1 cup mushrooms, sliced

– 2 tablespoons butter

– 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

– 1 1/2 cups beef broth

– 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (for gravy)

– 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

2. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, milk, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix well and form into 4-6 patties.

3. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the patties for about 2 minutes per side until browned. Transfer to a baking dish.

4. In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté onions and mushrooms until soft and golden.

5. Sprinkle flour over the onions and mushrooms, stirring to combine. Cook for 1 minute.

6. Gradually whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring constantly. Add dried thyme and simmer until the gravy thickens.

7. Pour the gravy over the hamburger patties in the baking dish.

8. Cover with foil and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the patties are cooked through.

9. Serve hot with mashed potatoes or buttered noodles. Enjoy!

Notes

– For a deeper flavor, use homemade beef broth instead of store-bought.

– Adding a splash of heavy cream to the gravy makes it extra rich.

– Serve with mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or roasted vegetables for a complete meal.

– Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen for up to a month.
