A modern twist on the classic corn dog, featuring savory sausage links enveloped in a crispy, golden cornmeal batter. Perfect for a quick snack or party appetizer.

Ingredients

– 4 sausage links (preferably all-beef or your choice)

– 1 cup cornmeal

– 1 cup all-purpose flour

– 2 tbsp granulated sugar

– 1 tbsp baking powder

– 1/2 tsp salt

– 1 egg

– 1 cup milk

– 1/4 cup water (adjust for batter consistency)

– Oil, for deep frying

Instructions

1. In a medium bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

2. In a separate bowl, beat the egg with milk and water.

3. Gradually combine the wet ingredients into the dry, stirring until smooth. Adjust water if necessary for a thick but pourable batter.

4. Pat the sausage links dry with paper towels.

5. Insert a skewer or stick into each sausage, leaving enough exposed for easy handling.

6. Preheat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).

7. Dip each sausage into the batter, ensuring an even coating.

8. Carefully lower the battered sausage into the hot oil and fry for 3-5 minutes or until the batter is golden and crispy.

9. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

10. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauces, such as mustard or ketchup.

Notes

– For a thicker batter, let the mixture rest for 5 minutes before dipping the sausages.

– Ensure the oil maintains a steady temperature to avoid greasy results.

– Experiment with different types of sausages to find your preferred flavor.
