These Fluffy and Soft Dinner Rolls are the perfect addition to any meal. With a tender crumb and buttery flavor, they are ideal for holiday gatherings, weeknight dinners, or as a base for sliders. Easy to make and irresistibly delicious, these rolls will become a staple in your baking repertoire.
– 1 cup (240ml) whole milk, warmed to about 110°F (43°C)
– 2¼ teaspoons instant yeast (1 standard packet)
– 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
– 1 large egg
– ¼ cup (56g) unsalted butter, softened
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 3 cups (390g) all-purpose flour or bread flour
– Optional topping: 2 tablespoons melted unsalted butter mixed with 1 tablespoon honey
1. In a large bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer, combine the warm milk and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until the mixture is foamy.
2. Add the sugar, egg, softened butter, and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix until combined.
3. Gradually add the flour, one cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms.
4. Knead the dough for about 5–7 minutes, either by hand or using the dough hook attachment, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
5. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm environment for 1–2 hours, or until doubled in size.
6. Punch down the dough to release the air. Divide the dough into 14–16 equal pieces and shape each piece into a ball.
7. Arrange the dough balls in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Cover and let them rise for about 1 hour, or until puffy.
8. Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C). Bake the rolls for 20–25 minutes, or until golden brown.
9. Remove the rolls from the oven and brush with the optional honey butter topping for added flavor and shine.
10. Serve warm and enjoy!
For make-ahead preparation, shape the rolls and place them in the baking dish. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Allow the rolls to come to room temperature and rise before baking. Leftover rolls can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or frozen for longer storage.
