Experience the iconic taste of Krispy Kreme doughnuts made from scratch. These homemade doughnuts are crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, and generously glazed for a melt-in-your-mouth delight perfect for breakfast or a sweet treat.

Ingredients

– 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast

– 1/4 cup warm water (about 110°F)

– 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)

– 1/4 cup granulated sugar (divided: 1 tablespoon for yeast, remaining for dough)

– 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

– 1/2 teaspoon salt

– 2 eggs

– 4 cups all-purpose flour (adjust as needed)

– Vegetable oil (for frying)

For the glaze:

– 2 cups powdered sugar

– 1/4 cup milk

– 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

1. In a small bowl, combine the warm water, 1 tablespoon sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.

2. In a large bowl, mix the warm milk, melted butter, eggs, remaining sugar, and salt. Stir in the yeast mixture.

3. Gradually add the flour until a soft dough forms.

4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

6. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/2 inch thickness. Use a doughnut cutter (or two round cutters of different sizes) to cut out doughnuts.

7. Place the cut doughnuts on a lightly floured surface and let them rise for an additional 30 minutes.

8. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 375°F.

9. Fry the doughnuts in small batches for 1-2 minutes per side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.

10. For the glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Dip the warm doughnuts into the glaze, ensuring an even coating.

11. Place glazed doughnuts on a rack to allow the glaze to set. Serve warm.

Notes

– For best results, serve the doughnuts warm.

– Adjust flour as needed to achieve a soft, slightly sticky dough.

– Doughnuts are best enjoyed fresh; store in an airtight container for up to 1 day.

– Ensure the oil temperature stays consistent for even frying.
