Italian Sausage Pasta in a Tomato Basil Sauce is a rich, hearty, and flavorful dish made with savory sausage, aromatic garlic, and a homemade tomato-basil sauce. Perfect for a comforting dinner that’s both simple and satisfying.

Ingredients

– 400g (14 oz) Italian sausage, casings removed

– 350g (12 oz) pasta (penne, rigatoni, or your choice)

– 1 tablespoon olive oil

– 1 small onion, finely chopped

– 3 cloves garlic, minced

– 1 can (400g) crushed tomatoes

– 2 tablespoons tomato paste

– 1 teaspoon dried oregano

– 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

– Salt and black pepper to taste

– 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried basil)

– 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional for serving)

Instructions

1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the Italian sausage and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through.

3. Add chopped onion and garlic to the skillet. Sauté for 2–3 minutes until the onion is soft and translucent.

4. Stir in tomato paste and cook for 1 minute to enhance the flavor.

5. Pour in the crushed tomatoes, then add oregano, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

6. Stir in the chopped basil and drained pasta. Toss to combine and heat through.

7. Serve hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese if desired.

Notes

– You can use spicy or sweet Italian sausage depending on your flavor preference.

– Add a splash of cream at the end for a creamy version of this dish.

– This pasta pairs beautifully with a green salad and crusty bread.
