Description

Delicate and refreshing, these Lemon Basil Salmon Rolls combine silky smoked salmon with a tangy, herbaceous cream cheese filling. Infused with bright lemon zest and fresh basil, they make an elegant appetizer or light snack that’s both sophisticated and satisfying.

Ingredients

For the Filling:
• 4 oz cream cheese, softened
• 2 tbsp fresh basil, finely chopped (plus extra for garnish)
• 1 tsp lemon zest
• 1 tsp lemon juice (adjust to taste)
• Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Rolls:
• 8 oz thinly sliced smoked salmon (about 12 slices)
• Optional: 1 tbsp capers or 1 tbsp finely diced red onion

Instructions

  • Prepare the Filling:
    • In a small bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, chopped basil, lemon zest, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth and well blended.
  • Assemble the Rolls:
    • Lay out the smoked salmon slices on a clean, flat surface.
    • Spread a thin, even layer of the cream cheese mixture over each slice.
    • (Optional: Sprinkle a few capers or a pinch of diced red onion over the filling for extra tang.)
    • Starting at one short edge, carefully roll up each salmon slice into a tight roll. Secure with a toothpick if needed.
  • Chill and Garnish:
    • Arrange the rolls on a serving platter.
    • Garnish with additional chopped basil and a light sprinkle of lemon zest.
    • Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld.

Notes

Use thinly sliced smoked salmon for easier rolling.
• For a lighter variation, substitute part or all of the cream cheese with Greek yogurt.
• These rolls are best served chilled and can also be presented as a sushi-style bite.
