A decadent, moist, and rich chocolate cake layered with tart cherries and velvety whipped cream. This luxurious rendition of the classic Black Forest dessert offers a perfect balance of cocoa intensity, fruity brightness, and creamy indulgence.

Ingredients

• 2 cups all-purpose flour

• 2 cups granulated sugar

• 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

• 2 teaspoons baking powder

• 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda

• 1 teaspoon salt

• 1 cup milk

• 1/2 cup vegetable oil

• 2 large eggs

• 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

• 1 cup boiling water

• 2 cups pitted dark sweet cherries

• 1/4 cup kirsch (optional)

• Whipped cream (for filling and garnish)

• Chocolate shavings (for garnish)

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

2. In a large bowl, sift together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

3. Add milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients; mix until smooth.

4. Stir in the boiling water slowly; the batter will be thin.

5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

6. Allow cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

7. Once cooled, slice each cake horizontally to create layers.

8. Toss cherries with kirsch (if using).

9. Spread a generous layer of whipped cream on the first cake layer, sprinkle with cherries, and add a thin layer of chocolate shavings. Repeat with the remaining layers.

10. Cover the assembled cake with a light coat of whipped cream and garnish with extra cherries and chocolate shavings.

Notes

• For a more pronounced cherry flavor, let the pitted cherries macerate in kirsch for 30 minutes before using.

• Ensure that the boiling water is added slowly to avoid clumping.

• The cake layers can be made a day ahead; store them in an airtight container and assemble just before serving.
