Indulge in a decadent breakfast treat using thick slices of dense pound cake dipped in a rich custard batter, then grilled to golden perfection. Served with maple syrup and fresh fruit, it’s a delightful twist on a classic French toast.

Ingredients

– 4 thick slices of pound cake (preferably day-old)

– 4 large eggs

– 1 cup milk

– 1 tsp vanilla extract

– 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

– A pinch of salt

– Butter (for frying)

– Maple syrup, for serving

– Fresh berries or fruit slices, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

1. In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt.

2. Preheat a griddle or large skillet over medium heat and add a knob of butter.

3. Dip each slice of pound cake into the custard mixture, ensuring both sides are well-coated.

4. Place the dipped pound cake slices onto the griddle and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.

5. Transfer to a plate, drizzle generously with maple syrup, and garnish with fresh fruit if desired.

6. Serve warm and enjoy this rich, indulgent breakfast treat.

Notes

– Using day-old pound cake helps it soak up the custard without falling apart.

– Adjust the cinnamon and vanilla to taste for your preferred flavor intensity.

– For an extra indulgent twist, dust with powdered sugar before serving.
