Tachos are a fun twist on traditional nachos, using crispy tater tots as the base instead of tortilla chips. Topped with melted cheese, sour cream, jalapeños, ground beef (or chicken), and your favorite nacho toppings, these Tater Tot Nachos are a crowd-pleasing appetizer or game day snack.
– 1 lb frozen tater tots
– 1/2 lb ground beef (or chicken)
– 1 tbsp olive oil
– 1/2 onion, diced
– 1/2 tsp garlic powder
– 1/2 tsp chili powder
– 1/4 tsp cumin
– Salt and pepper to taste
– 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
– 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
– 1/4 cup jalapeño slices
– 1/4 cup sour cream
– 1/4 cup salsa
– 1/4 cup chopped green onions
– Fresh cilantro for garnish (optional)
1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
2. Spread the frozen tater tots evenly on a baking sheet and bake according to package instructions, typically 20-25 minutes, until crispy and golden.
3. While the tater tots are baking, heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
4. Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon. Drain any excess fat.
5. Stir in garlic powder, chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, then remove from heat.
6. Once the tater tots are done, remove them from the oven and spread them out on a large platter or serving dish.
7. Top the tater tots with the cooked ground beef mixture, followed by the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheese.
8. Return the loaded tater tots to the oven for another 5-7 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
9. Remove from the oven and top with jalapeño slices, sour cream, salsa, green onions, and fresh cilantro (if using).
10. Serve immediately and enjoy!
– Feel free to swap the ground beef for cooked chicken, pulled pork, or even a vegetarian filling.
– You can add other toppings such as diced tomatoes, black olives, or avocado.
– For extra heat, try adding hot sauce or more jalapeños.
– For a healthier twist, bake the tater tots in the air fryer.
