Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 package active dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
  • 1/4 cup warm water (110°F)
  • 1/2 cup warm milk (110°F)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted (plus extra for brushing)
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra if needed)

  • Optional: Honey butter glaze for serving (mix melted butter with honey)

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water with a pinch of sugar. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, melted butter, sugar, egg, and salt. Stir in the yeast mixture.
  • Gradually add the flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  • Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 6-8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  • Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a smooth ball and place them in a greased baking dish, leaving space between each roll.
  • Cover the rolls and let them rise for an additional 30 minutes until puffy.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown on top.

  • Remove from the oven and immediately brush with extra melted butter or drizzle with honey butter glaze. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Ensure the water and milk are at the proper warm temperature to activate the yeast effectively.
  • If the dough feels too sticky, add a little extra flour during kneading.

  • For an extra indulgent touch, serve with a side of honey butter.
