Vanilla Buttercream Frosting is a classic, versatile icing known for its rich, creamy texture and sweet, buttery flavor. Perfect for cakes, cupcakes, and cookies, this frosting is easy to make and can be customized with various flavorings or colors to suit any occasion.

Ingredients

– 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, softened

– 3½ to 4 cups (420–480g) powdered sugar, sifted

– 2 teaspoons (10ml) vanilla extract

– 2–4 tablespoons (30–60ml) heavy cream or milk

– Pinch of salt (optional)

Instructions

1. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter on medium speed until creamy and smooth.

2. Gradually add the sifted powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, beating on low speed to incorporate.

3. Once all the sugar is added, increase the speed to medium and beat until light and fluffy.

4. Add the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt (if using), mixing until combined.

5. Gradually add the heavy cream or milk, 1 tablespoon at a time, until the desired consistency is reached.

6. Continue to beat on medium speed for an additional 2–3 minutes until the frosting is smooth and fluffy.

7. Use immediately or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Re-whip before using.

Notes

– For a whiter frosting, use clear vanilla extract.

– To achieve a stiffer consistency, add more powdered sugar; for a softer consistency, add more cream or milk.

– This frosting can be colored and flavored by adding food coloring or extracts like almond or lemon.

– Ensure the butter is softened to room temperature for the best texture.
